Digital Transformation on the Logistics Floor
We observed a logistics operation still recording stock movements by hand, and built a web brochure viewer and a 3D container loading simulator. It did not lead to a follow-on contract, but it mapped out the problem structure of a new domain.
Dec 2024 – Apr 2025

Project
- Worked with logistics affiliates to observe the floor and gather requirements.
- Built a web brochure viewer.
- Built a 3D container loading simulator.
- Ran roughly five months of testing and iteration.
Challenge
- Stock movements were still recorded and managed by hand.
- For the size of the business, the process was barely digitised at all.
- A printed brochure has to be reprinted whenever information changes, and is hard to produce in several languages.
- Container loading depended on the operator’s experience, so space utilisation varied.
Development
Web brochure viewer
- Moved a print-first brochure to the web so it opens in a browser with nothing to install.
- Zoom, page navigation and the usual reading controls.
- Updates take effect immediately, cutting the cost of keeping content current.
- Structured so additional language versions are straightforward to produce.
Container loading simulator
- Implemented a loading algorithm that accounts for item size and weight.
- Upload an order list and have it distributed across multiple containers.
- The result is visualised in 3D so it can be checked before loading.
- Container size, margins and rotation, lay-flat and pallet options feed into the calculation.
What the project established
- A clear picture of how the problems on a logistics floor actually fit together.
- A realistic read on where automation helps and where it does not.
- Technical insight transferable to other industries.
